Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan, KS

The first Chandlers of CFA DNA Group 7B are interred in the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan (Riley County), Kansas. After migrating from northwestern Pennsylvania in the mid-1880’s, George Henry Chadwick Chandler and his wife, Cynthia Panina (Hepler) Chandler, settled their 3 oldest children, Myra, Ivy and Roy, onto a large plot of farmland in northern Manhattan, KS. Shortly thereafter, their 4th child, Berta, was born. The 3 girls married local men, while their only son married a young woman from North Carolina (Verona Belle Estes).

George was known as a generous man, giving some of his land for a local school to be built (Rocky Ford Schoolhouse), which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Roy eventually took over the farm while his parents moved into “town”.
