Theirs must have been a loving marriage, as a sweet poem is engraved on the back of their monument:

Plant Sweet Flowers on my grave

Darling, soon I will be sleeping,
In the Churchyard over there,
Where the vines and grass come creeping,
And the birds sing everywhere.
Will you promise while I’m living,
From the Kisses that you gave,
Will you promise if you love me,
Plant sweet flowers on my grave.

Union Primitive Baptist Church
Danielsville, Georgia
The Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery on Highway 106, Danielsville, Georgia, is the location of a number of Chandler graves. Rev. Lewis Martin Chandler preached here and is buried beside his wife, Mary L. Carolyn Sailors. They are both descendants of John Chandler born 1600 (Genetic Chandler Family 7A) and 4th cousins once removed to each other.
These photographs were submitted by Angie Henley, great-granddaughter of Lewis Martin and Mary Sailors Chandler. Sterling Chandler (1782-1858) (see below) was the maternal grandfather of Mary Sailors Chandler, which makes Angie a double descendant of John Chandler born 1600.

See photographs of Lewis Martin and Mary on the Chandler Memories page 9.

Sterling and Edith Chandler, Madison County, GA

photograph of grave marker for Sterling Chandler
Marker for Sterling Chandler (1782-1858)
There are markers for Sterling and Edith Chandler and two of their great-grandsons among others in a family cemetery located on Neese-Commerce Road in Madison County near Ila, Georgia. (This cemetery is noted as the Dock Chandler Cemetery in the CFA Lineages Database.) According to descendant Angie Henley, neither Sterling nor Edith are actually buried at the location of their markers. Apparently a descendant placed a memorial there some time after their deaths. Family legend tells that Sterling is buried in an unmarked grave on his former property, and Edith is buried in an unmarked grave in another family cemetery on the corner of Neese Commerce Road and Highway 98, Ila, Georgia.Sterling was born April 6, 1782, in North Carolina and died April 18, 1858, in Jackson County, Georgia. Edith Bryant Chandler was born March 3, 1787, in North Carolina, and died after 1858 in Madison County, Georgia
The two great-grandsons buried in Dock Chandler Cemetery are Garnett McMillian Chandler and Alvia Thurman Chandler, sons of Docktor Franklin “Dock” Chandler. They are first cousins once removed to Mary L. Carolyn Sailors (see above).

One bit of info on Garnett & Alvia Chandler is that they both were pharmacists and both died from tuberculosis. It is believed that both contracted the disease from a boarding house in Atlanta.

Relict and Consort Explanation—
The reference “Relict” and “Consort,” often found on tombstones or death notices, refers to the wife.”Relict” means that the woman was a widow at the time of her death, and “consort” means that her husband survived her. “Genealogy Hints and Tips,” CFA Newsletter, June 2000. (Webmaster’s note—The usage on Mary’s marker does not follow the rule cited here and also found in other sources. Mary outlived her husband by more than seven years but is referred to on the grave marker as “consort” instead of “relict,” which would have been more correct.)

Robert Bailey Chandler of Winston County, Mississippi

Robert Bailey Chandler, Donna Gorda’s great-great-grandfather, is buried in Antioch Cemetery, Winston County, Mississippi. He was the son of Robert Chandler (born 1775 Wilkes County, NC) and Margret Johnston (born November 11, 1798). Robert Chandler, born 1775, was the brother of Abraham Chandler (see above, buried Chandler Cemetery, Calhoun, Georgia), so Robert Bailey Chandler buried in Antioch Cemetery, Winston County, Mississippi, is the nephew of Abraham Chandler buried in Chandler Cemetery, Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia.

Robert Bailey Chandler’s ancestry: John Chandler b 1600 ENG > Robert Chandler b c 1629 VA > Robert Chandler b 1654 VA > Joell Chandler b 1683 VA > Robert Chandler b 1720 VA > Bailey Chandler b 1751 VA > Robert Chandler b 1790 NC > Robert Bailey Chandler b 1820 GA

Robert Bailey Chandler’s daughter, Ancy Netta Chandler Weeks, is buried in Bethel Cemetery, Winston County, Mississippi. See a photo of Ancy Netta Chandler’s grave marker.
