Caswell County is the place where Joseph Chandler (II) lived from 1797 until his death in 1805. This Joseph (John born 1600-Robert-Robert-Joseph-Joseph) is the ancestor of so many of the CFA membership. We have his will, which was probated in October 1805. He moved his family from Virginia to Granville Co, North Carolina, in 1761 (first land record in his name). In 1797 he moved to the County Line Creek area of Caswell County. By that time several of his grown children had moved to Franklin Co, Georgia, including James, his eldest, in 1796. Since his wife’s name is not on the deed it is assumed that she had died before 1797. Joseph’s known children include James, Betty, Lucy, Susanna (ancestor of John Edwards), Joseph, Edmund, Sarah, William and Stephen. All moved to Franklin County, Georgia, except for Susannah, William and Stephen. According to the terms of Joseph’s will, the land in Caswell County went to the youngest two sons, William and Stephen. –Glenn Chandler, 7/4/09 |
