Green Berry Duff Chandler

green_chandler_bristow_okThis photo of the grave of Green Berry Duff Chandler was sent by great-grandson Joe Chandler of Owassa, Oklahoma. Green Chandler is buried in Bristow City Cemetary, Bristow, Oklahoma. Joe says the family story was that Green, who lived in Kentucky, came to Oklahoma to visit his son, Joe’s grandfather, and became ill and died during the visit. An 1850 census record for Clay County, Kentucky, shows Green Chandler, age 15, in the household of Joseph and Martha Chandler. In addition to Green, other children were Emina(?), age 13; Elizabeth, age 11; Silas, age 9, and Mary, age 2.

The 1860 census record for Clay County, Kentucky, has Green as head of household at age 24. With him are Betsy, age 20 (sister Elizabeth?); brother Silas, age 19; sister Mary, age 12; a female age 8 whose name looks like Lavical; and his mother Martha, age 65. Three people with the surname Radford are also in the household.

The 1880 census shows Green still in Clay County at age 44. His wife is Luisa, and they have the following children: Martha, age 17; Julian, age 15; Mary age 13; Elizabeth, age 11; William, age 5; and Eliza, age 3. By 1910 Green and his wife, spelled “Louisa” this time, are living in Laurel County, Kentucky, apparently near son William, age 37, and his family.
